WESCO Builds for DOT

Wetlands Ledger Database System

Helena, MT - July 6, 2007

In May of 2007, WESCO was selected to perform the design and development for the Wetlands Ledger Database System. The purpose of this project is to create an integrated Oracle database for supporting the Environmental Services Section wetland management processes. The pre-existing wetland ledger system is based on electronic spreadsheets. The main spreadsheet is used to track wetland credits and highway construction project mitigation impacts. Additional spreadsheets and hard copy files are used for tracking related items like contacts, wetland monitoring activities and possible future construction projects. The new Oracle based system will enable the Environmental Services Section to anticipate, track and monitor present and future wetland impacts, as well as maintain a history of wetlands management activities. Unlike the current spreadsheet based system the new Oracle based system will support efficient data maintenance processes, comprehensive querying, analysis and reporting. The new system will be much more flexible and supportive as needs change and expand over the years. The new system will include interfaces to the Program & Project Management System (PPMS), as well as other DOT systems, which will support efficient data sharing processes therefore reducing duplicate data entry and reconciliation issues due to data discrepancies.
